The Evolution of Cheer

What better way to spend Superbowl Sunday than eating nachos, drinking craft beer, yelling “blitz!”, cheering at the commercials, and browsing through vintage cheerleader uniforms?  From the cardigans and collared shirts of the early 1900s and the crew neck sweaters of the ’40s to the full skirts and saddle shoes of the 50’s and the daisy dukes and knee high boots of the 70’s, these are some of the best examples of vintage cheerleading uniforms that I’ve found.

Happy Superbowl and gooooooooo team!

  1. I have an old cheerleading outfit. It’s all satin – black and orange. The skirt is a circle skirt to about knee length with a full satin orange lining. The jacket is short-waisted – almost military looking in orange and black satin. What years would this have been worn?
